The man accused of starting the fire at the parliamentary precinct will be appearing in court on Saturday on an urgent basis.
The National Prosecuting Authority Spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila, says the alleged Parliament arsonist Zandile Mafe is set to appear in the Western Cape High Court at 11am.
Mafe made his second appearance in court on Tuesday where the State brought more charges against him.
The 49-year-old is facing multiple charges, including terrorism.
The court also ordered that he undergo a mental evaluation before his bail application could be heard.
According to his lawyer Mafe is currently on hunger strike after the state brought new evidence claiming he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.
Mafe’s lawyer, Lovuyo Godla, says his client has been on hunger strike since Tuesday and will continue to refuse food until he is released on bail.
His lawyers will bring an urgent application for the Parliament arson to be released on bail.
