

Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Hlengiwe Mkhize has passed away.
The 69-year-old Deputy Minister was appointed to the portfolio in 2019 by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
She was an ANC NEC member and chairperson of the Progressive Women’s Movement of South Africa.
The news of her passing was confirmed on Thursday morning. Further details of her passing could not be confirmed.
In a statement, the department says it is shocked to have learned about her passing.
Mkhize previously served as the Deputy Minister of Higher Education in 2012.She also served as the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Telecoms and Postal Services. She also became Minister of Home Affairs and later became the Minister of Higher Education and Training in 2017.
