Bonginkosi Khanyile has been granted bail of R5 000 by the Durban Magistrate’s Court.
Fees Must Fall activist is charged with inciting public violence, holding an illegal gathering and not wearing a face mask while in public
Magistrate Vincent Hlatshwayo handed down judgment on Tuesday.
He granted Khanyile bail, with conditions that he won’t be able to post on Twitter until the matter is resolved, and he needs to report to Hillbrow Police Station twice a week, if he is in Durban then he would need to report to Durban Central Police.
“Bail is granted in the amount of R5000. The conditions attached are once bail has been paid the applicant will be released but he must attend this matter until it is finalised. He must report to Hillbrow Police Station twice a week. A further condition is that he has to suspend and or not use his Twitter account for the duration of this matter. The accused is warned that should he breach any of these conditions, the State has the right to bring his application to have his bail cancelled and that he be kept in prison until the matter is finalised.”
The matter has been postponed to 23 September.
