The case against a grade 8 pupil accused of killing fellow pupil in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg, has been postponed for further investigation.
Qayiya Mgaye(16) was stabbed to death on Monday during at Pholosho Secondary School.
It is understood the 16-year-old was stabbed in the upper body during an argument with a fellow pupil. The suspect subsequently fled the scene by jumping the school fence.
The 15-year-old suspect appeared before the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on a charge of murder.
The pupil has been remanded at a juvenile detention centre until the matter is heard in the Child Justice Court.
On Tuesday Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi visited the school and the family of the deceased pupil.
“We vehemently condemn the violent behaviour which led to the death of a learner, allegedly at the expense of his peer on school grounds. It is absolutely unacceptable,” Lesufi said.
He said the department’s psycho-social team would support the school, family and all affected.
The murder case has been postponed to 8 September.
