The Jacob Zuma’s Foundation says Jabob Zuma’s lawyers are busy studying his medical report meant to determine his fitness to stand trial.
Spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi confirmed that the report was submitted on Friday by the military health services.
Former president Zuma was admitted to hospital a month ago, he is serving a 15-month jail term for contempt of court
“On Friday the report was submitted to the court and the NPA has a copy of the report, as things stand, the NPA is still examining the report to be able to form a view on the report,” said Manyi
According to Manyi, Zuma never refused to be examined by a medical professional appointed by the NPA.
“But I must add that the issue of examining anyone requires that person consent, so if behind the scenes it happened that doctors went there without his consent it would be out of order and the time was not correct and if President Zuma did refuse to be examined it is his right,” added Manyi
The Pietermaritzburg High Court ordered that the NPA can appoint its own medical practitioner to examine whether Zuma was fit to stand trial.
“It is not the time for second opinions as the report is still being studied,” said Manyi.
The court previously court rejected a letter submitted by Zuma’s lawyers stating that he was too ill to stand trial.
