The Mpumalanga Department of Education says it is disturbed by the murder of a security guard at Sibambisene Primary School in Daantjie, City of Mbombela, Ehlanzeni District.
“It is believed the thieves broke into the school confronted the school security guard and murdered him. They then proceeded to the administration office block through the roof to cut the alarm code and went down through the ceiling. They stole 6 laptops worth R46000.”
Zitha Philemon Joseph (59), was contracted by School Governing Body for the security service of the school since 2019.
The MEC for Education, Bonakele Majuba says the departments condemns the incident in the strongest terms possible and calls upon anyone who may have information that can help to apprehend those criminals who are behind this atrocious act to arlet the police.
“We are shocked by this evil act of theft and murder and we take this opportunity to convey our sincere condolences to the grieving family as well as the school community for the loss of life. We condemn this atrocious act and it should not be allowed in any civilised society. As a Department, we request anyone who has information about the break in, theft and murder that happened at this school to inform the police. We further request all school communities to help to make our schools true centres for community growth and development and to be safeguarded at all times,” said MEC Majuba.
The MEC for Education visited the school and thereafter proceeded to the bereaved family to pay homage.
