Gauteng Premier David Makhura announced that the provincial government will continue to partner with organisations to promote vaccination against COVID-19.

Makhura was speaking on Thursday morning at public broadcaster’s pop-up COVID-19 vaccination site at Radio Park in Auckland Park, Johannesburg.

“The SABC and the Gauteng government have partnered to vaccinate South Africans on Thursday and Friday between six in the morning and four o’clock in the afternoon.” he said.

People aged 18 and above will be allowed to vaccinate.

Makhura says more partnerships will be used to convince the public that there is not better way of fighting the pandemic than vaccinating.

“We’re really, really going out there to find partners, various organisations and state institutions. We’re also going to communities to organisations to ramp up this vaccination programme because in the end vaccinating more and more and more people is the best we can do in fighting this pandemic,” added Makhura.

SABC board chairperson Bongumusa Makhathini also emphasized the importance of getting a vaccine.

“It is very important for the stability of our country and also for us as a country to really get vaccinated so that we can be in a position to continue to co-exist with this virus. If you are vaccinated, the chances of you surviving even if you get infected are very high. The challenge we have is that we can’t keep on having these hard lockdowns. We have to get a certain number of South Africans vaccinated and if you genuinely care about your family and loved ones, it is important for you to get vaccinated,” says Makhathini.
