The Road Traffic Management Corporation has urged motorists to renew licences which expired between 26 March to 31 December 2020.
Licensing centres were forces to close last year when the national lockdown was implemented in South Africa
Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula says the extension for all learner licences, driving licence cards, temporary driving licences and professional driving licences ends in August 2021.
According to Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Jacob Mamabolo some people could not renew their licenses because the system was manipulated.
“There has been an outcry that people are manipulating selling the slots, we’ve appointed one of the best most renowned forensic investigation companies for the first time. They are now a month on the job, they are bringing down and deep diving into this issue of manipulation of slots” says Mamabolo.
He says the department will ensure they get to the bottom of the syndicates and networks of corruption that are making it difficult for people to get a slot.
