Breaking News: The unrest, protests and looting sprees seen across South Africa in the past two weeks, seem to be far from over as disgruntled citizens resume with protests by taking to the streets of Sandton.

Reports emerged in the early hours of Wednesday morning that a group of disgruntled construction workers, who had not received their wages; had blockaded the streets of Benmore, a suburb in Sandton Johannesburg. The Protest action is reported to have ensued in Benmore & Lower Rd, Sandton.

A viral social media tweet reported: “Violence is starting as rioters attack a @JoburgMPD member in a police car”. However the Johannesburg Metro police are visible on the protest scene and have confirmed that the injured guard is being assessed by paramedics.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) confirmed that a security guard was attacked by protesters in Sandton where construction workers along Benmore road are claiming they have not been paid their wages.
