The Democratic Alliance (DA) has laid charges of inciting violence against Jacob Zuma’s children, Duduzane and Duduzile Zuma including the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF); Julius Malema.
Member of Parliament on Justice and Constitutional Development Glynnis Breytenbach, has laid charges at the Cape Town Police Station.
This follows their remarks on social media about the violent protests that have taken place in some parts of the country.
“Charges against Malema relate to tweets in which he said deploying the army was akin to declaring war on citizens. Inciting violence should not be tolerated,” said Breytenbach.
She says leaders should encourage citizens to obey the law.
“In my view if you are a leader with influence in society and in particular a political leader, you owe it to South African’s to uphold rule of law, within confines of Constitution, do whatever you can to encourage followers and other citizens to obey law,” says Breytenbach.
On Tuesday Malema’s account was suspended by Twitter for a period of 12 hours over his Tweet that if the government deployed soldiers, members of the EFF will also take to the streets.
