The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has launched an internal investigation into the conduct of two officers who allegedly harassment a street vendor.
This is after a video of two officers who are seen trying to forcefully confiscate goods from a street vendor went viral.
“I beg you. I’m unemployed, please don’t take my things. I have six children, I don’t work, I have no job,” the woman cries out.
JMPD says it is investigating the alleged abuse and harassment of street vendor
According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, it was also alleged by the complainant that the officers tried to solicit a bribe from the vendor for selling goods on the side of the road.
“The matter has been brought forward to the JMPD Internal Affairs Unit and a preliminary investigation has been initiated,” said Fihla.
