The Gauteng Department of Health says their hospitals are under pressure after an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases.
Gauteng has recorded a spike in covis-19 cases across South Africa.
Spokesperson Kwara Kekana says the West Rand and city of Johannesburg are hotspots.
“We are also seeing an increasing number of People Under Investigation, particularly in the West Rand and City of Johannesburg Districts,” said Kekana.
According to the spokesperson the province continues to monitor adherence to Covid-19 measures in communities, schools and other public spaces.
“The priority for the provincial government has been to add more permanent beds into the Gauteng health system, as this is a long-term investment. In addition to the newly built infrastructure in areas such Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Jubilee Hospital and Bronkhorstspruit Hospital, wards and beds are always repurposed based on the demands of the pandemic at the time,” added Kekana
The country has officially entered the third wave of infections.
