The South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) in the Free State has welcomed the decision to have teachers vaccinated.
Aspen confirmed that Johnson & Johnson will provide 300 000 doses of the covid-19 vaccine for South African teachers soon.
Education MEC Tate Makgoe said teachers who would like to be vaccinated must forward.
Sadtu provincial secretary Bricks Moloi says they will ensure that teachers get vaccinated and they are pleased with the decision.
“The option to vaccinate teachers comes at the right time, ahead of the resumption of daily attendance in primary school learners from next month, said Moloi.
Moloi said as a union they are satisfied about the decision to get teachers vaccinated considering the increasing infection rate in the province in particular amongst learners in schools and teachers.
“This is a relief on the part of the union and we believe that it is also the same on the part of the teachers and other education workers. Because of this anxiety, everyone was now skeptical about the learners coming in number,” added Moloi
