Classes have been suspended at Witbank Technical High School in eMalahleni, Mpumalanga.
This is after parents and community members clashed outside the school due to claims of racism.
According to reports the clash was a result of a fight between a black and a white learner that took place last week.
A video of the fight made rounds on social media, in the video, a group of learners can be seen throwing punches at each other.
It is also alleged that the White pupil used the K-word when referring to the Black learner.
MEC for Education Bonakele Majuba said they will be suspending classes for a week.
“We are going to suspend classes for a week now and we have got a team of the department that is going to look at all the challenges at the schooling makes sure that these issues are resolved so we can make sure there is stability and peace at that school,” said Majuba.
It was reported that two black leaners were also suspended.
Majuba, said the department of education is investigating the matter.
“We have decided to suspend all for a week, and we will be investigating the matter and the two will be given a chance to write the exam,” adds Majuba.
The department has called a parents meeting on Tuesday.
Classes are expected resume next week Monday.
