Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Sello Malema has given the Department of Basic Education seven days to close down all schools or face a complete shutdown.
“Children have become recent victims of the pandemic and that the EFF would not allow them to die on its watch,” he said.
Malema was briefing the media in Johannesburg on Thursday.
“Schools must close, and they must close with immediate effect because our children are going to die. We give the minister seven days to close schools, failure to do so, we’ll have to close schools ourselves as the EFF,” said Malema
He said the country should be concerned about the lives of learners now that the country has entered the third wave of infections.
Malema also criticized President Cyril Ramaphosa’s leadership, stating that he puts profit before the lives of South Africans by denying them access to the Chinese and Russian vaccines.
“We are in a mess, the black elite that benefits from corrupt white capital is all over defending this mess. we are in a worse situation than what we were in during Zuma by the way. We are worse than that time, to pretend like we are in a better position is a self-defeating attitude. We must acknowledge that under Cyril we are in a mess,” added Malema.
