South Africa recorded 5 782 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest daily increase since the third wave got a grip on some provinces.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize reported that Gauteng is experiencing a greater surge in Covid-19 infections than the rest of the country.
Mkhize said they will be monitoring the increase of positive cases to see if it sustains.
“Meanwhile we urge all citizens to remain vigilant and adhere to non-pharmaceutical interventions, even if vaccinated,” said Mkhize.
“Provinces are continuing their mortality audits and have captured deaths as far back as November 2020. We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients,” says Mkhize.
The countries death toll now stands at 56 711.
The recovery rate stands at 93,5%.
The country is currently sitting on 1 675 013 confirmed cases , and the total number of individuals vaccinated is 1 117 569
