The Democratic Alliance (DA) to lay charges against Health Minister Zweli Mkhize over his alleged involvement in the awarding of an irregular contract to a communications company, Digital Vibes.
Mkhize is accused of having a hand in the awarding of an irregular tender to the company linked to his close associates Tahera Mather and Naadhira Mitha.
DA national spokesperson Siviwe Gwarube says the Special Investigating Unit’s (SIU) probe needs to be bolstered by a criminal investigation.
“…it has since been reported that Minister Mkhize personally signed off on the submission that contained the contract. This is in direct contravention of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act section 3 and specifically section 12 and 13 which relate to acts of service offered or accepted in exchange for government contracts and tenders,” said Gwarube.
DA says it will also lay charges against Health director-general Sandile Buthelezi at the Cape Town Station.
