Gauteng government announced that it will be opening the cancer treatment wing at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital sometime this week.
Gauteng Provincial Government Acting Director General, Thabo Masebe says the hospital is closed, only the oncology building will open this week subject to the conditions.
“The hospital remains closed and patients are in other facilities and some have been discharged. So when the oncology department is open, we will take patients who use those services,” said Masebe.
Health Department’s acting head Lesiba Malotana said it’s unclear when the hospital will be fully operational again.
Malotana said they are doing everything possible to ensure that the hospital resumes it’s to services starting with oncology.
“At the moment, we don’t know until all the work is finished. We have to look at the work that needs to be done in the building damaged by the fire,” he said.
The management said the rest of the hospital will remain closed.
