ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba will be standing as a mayoral candidate of Johannesburg for the upcoming local government elections.
Mashaba was previously a DA mayor when he was a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA), but resigned from the party in October 2019.
“I come before you to announce my decision to run as a candidate in ActionSA’s mayoral candidate and with your support, run to be mayor of the City of Joburg, the decision to make myself available as a candidate in these elections has been one I have wrestled with for some time.”” said Mashaba.
Mashaba left the DA when Helen Zille was appointed federal chairperson of the party.
“When I left the position as mayor, a little over two years ago, I was disappointed that I was unable to complete the mission that I had set out on, certainly not under the party I then worked with,” added Mashaba.
The elections are set to take place on 27 October.
