The Democratic Municipal and Allied Workers Union (Demawusa) workers strike continues in Johannesburg.
Demawusa is demanding a wage increase of 18% and the reinstatement of dismissed workers from Metrobus.
Metrobus spokesperson Goodwill Shivuri says 98% of the staff is willing to work and have been coming to work however striking workers are threatening those have remained on duty.
“Unfortunately, Metrobus is not able to operate although is only just over 1% of the workforce that is on strike,” said Shivuri.
He says they have been receiving threats for those employees on duty.
“… the fact that we are not able to guarantee safety for employees and commuters, the employer is not willing to take the risk to operate tomorrow, ” added Shivuri.
