Former North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo has been suspended from the African National Congress (ANC) for 5 years.
The ANS’s Provincial Disciplinary Committee (PDC) found Mahumapelo guilty of misconduct.
He appeared before the disciplinary committee this week after he allegedly advised a local mayor to defy the party’s instruction to resign.
Mahumapelo and ANC Women’s League secretary Bitsa Lenkopane were suspend two weeks ago.
They were accused of running parallel events during the campaigns for by-elections in some of the municipalities.
“After considering the charges and evidence, the PDC found the following verdict that both the above-mentioned respondents have been found guilty as charged… Both respondents must be removed from lists of public representatives of the ANC” said Wendy Matsemela, chairperson of the Disciplinary Committee.
Both Mhumapelo and Lenkopane have 21 days to appeal the judgment.
