Norma Mngoma, the estranged wife of former Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba testified before the State Capture Inquiry.
Mngoma was initially expected to testify earlier this month, but withdrew at the last minute. She was then issued with summons.
According to Mngoma, a couple of months before Gigaba became Public Enterprises Minister, he told her that Ajay Gupta told him that he would get the position.
Among the many things Mngoma said, was that Gigaba was no stranger to the Gupta residence.
“I was often left alone whilst Gigaba attended the private meetings with Ajay Gupta and others in the adjacent private room…Over the years, Gigaba received cash and various gifts and benefits, from the Guptas” she added.
Mngoma said on many occasions, Gigaba informed her that the Guptas knew and had told him about who would be moved from and appointed to SOE’s.
She told the commission that Gigaba told her that Brian Molefe was going to be moved from Transnet to Eskom, adding that she was told this before Molefe was officially appointed to Eskom.
According to Mngoma, he also told her that Siyabonga Gama would be appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Transnet before the appointment was made. And that he intended to speak to Gama to appoint his sister, Gugu Gigaba to Transnet, and she was indeed appointed to Transnet.
Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo had dismissed a multiple application by counsel for former Minister Malusi Gigaba for testimony by his estranged wife norma Mngoma to be suppressed or for her to testify in camera.
