The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is expected to announce the results of Wednesday’s by-elections later on Thursday.
According to the IEC elections ran smoothly and counting is currently underway.
The by-elections were held in seven provinces in South Africa. The elections were held to replace councilors who had either died or had been removed from office by their respective parties.
However the only ward which encountered problems in the country was ward 20 in Buffalo City Metro. Ward 20 by-election were cancelled as the incumbent councilor obtained a court interdict against a councilors removal from the Buffalo City Council by CoGTA MEC Xolile Nqatha.
