University of Cape Town (UCT) students have called for assistance as they prepare to go back to their respective residences.
About 4000 UCT students had to be evacuated from the university buildings following a fire that broke out on the upper slopes of Table Mountain above UCT on Sunday.
According to the SRC President Declan Dyer, students whose essentials were lost or damaged by the fire will be needing assistance.
“The most immediate need will be things like your calculators and essentials like school learning stationery” added Dyer.
In a statement, the university’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng said an assessment of the damage is ongoing.
“The academic programme will resume on Monday, 26 April. The faculties will each manage the lost week in terms of the curriculum and will communicate with their students about scheduled tests and assignments.” Stated Mamokgethi.
UCT has suspended lectures for the rest of the week.
