South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) members have downed tools on Wednesday over working conditions at Rand Water.
The union said Rand Water failed to consult with Samwu before it decided not to pay performance incentive bonuses.
Rand water also took to court on Wednesday to get an interdict against members of Samwu who are engaged in a strike.
The entity is a major supplier to municipalities and industries in Gauteng, North West, Mpumalanga and Free State.
The General Manager of Rand Water Tebogo Joala said services will continue as normal.
“We don’t anticipate any interruption in any of our services and production of water and pumping up to various municipal reservoirs.” added Joala
The matter is being heard in the Labour court in Johannesburg, Gauteng.
