South Africa has asked India’s Serum Institute to take back the one million AstraZeneca vaccines according to reports.
The Economic Times in India is reporting that the South African government has asked the Serum Institute of India to take back the one million AstraZeneca vaccines that arrived earlier this month.
This follows the findings that the recent acquired vaccines provided minimal protection against mild to moderate COVID-19 in patients infected with the second variant of the virus.
Health Minister met with the World Health Organization (WHO), to discuss the way forward with regards to the countries findings on AstraZeneca vaccines.
WHO said AstraZeneca vaccine can be used for emergency.
It is not clear whether the vaccines will be taken back.
