The national health department has today (Wednesday), launched the Electronic Vaccine Data System (EVDS) that will be used to roll out South Africa’s Covid-19 vaccination programme.
The Electronic Vaccine Data System which was launched by health minister Zweli Mkhize , is a self-registration system which will form part of the governments plans for public health to go digital.
Health Minister Zwel Mkhize said the system can capture the relevant metrics of all South Africans that will be vaccinated.
According to the minister the purpose of the Electronic Vaccine Data System is to ensure that everyone who is vaccinated is captured and contactable.
On Monday the president received one million Covid-19 vaccines developed by AstraZeneca.
It was reported that health workers are going to be the first to undergo vaccination, therefore health workers have been urged to self-register on the Electronic Vaccine Data System at vaccine.enroll.health.za.
“About 34 000 active health workers had already registered on the system,” said Mkhize.
