The Democratic Alliance (DA) has rejected David Mabuza’s appointment to oversee the country’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout programmme, this is after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that Deputy President, David Mabuza will be head of the inter-ministerial committee for the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
DA says the Deputy President is incapable and unreliable to oversee the vaccine rollout plan and is simply not the right man for the Job.
The party further states that Mabusa failed when he was the Premier of Mpumalanga, he is currently failing as the Chairperson of the Political Task Team of Eskom and since the start of the pandemic, Mabuza has been an absent leader in a time where the country needed leadership.
In a statement, the party says: “It is also unclear why, of all the people in the Executive, he would choose somebody who has not done an iota of work on this crisis. This is nothing more than ANC factional battles playing itself out.”
The Government had previously announced that the first badge of the vaccine doses for South Africa can be expected by the end of this month
“The South African government has fundamentally failed the people of South Africa, by their own admission, in their bungling of this vaccine process. And the appointment of David Mabuza is yet another example of this government not prioritizing the health and safety of its people.”- DA.
