‘An artist is not paid for his work but for his vision’
Article by: Londiwe Mlotshwa.
Art is generally understood as any activity or product done by people with a communicative or aesthetic purpose, or as something that expresses an idea, an emotion or, more generally a word view.
Tseko Monyamane (51), is a full time employee and does beaded home décor as a side hustle, he says has always had love for the arts, and with everything he has created, designing home décor from bottles has been the best idea he has ever had.
According to Monyamane, he started off in 2019 after realizing that drawing is overrated and thought he should do something new and different. He had an idea of what he wanted to do, but needed direction.
Monyamane say he spent just a day on YouTube and came out with a clear view of what he had in mind and that’s how his artwork journey took off.
“An artist is not paid for his work, but for his vision,” added Monyamane
The artist further said that his family, friends and neighbors were very impressed with his work and encouraged him to display his art work outside his home for the community to see.
“I view my work work as a component of culture, reflecting economic and social substrates in its design. I choose to transmit ideas and values inherent in every culture across space and time. Its more like my work changes through time, acquiring more of an aesthetic component here and a socio-educational function there” explained Monyamane.
“ I prefer creativity more than talking, it is faster and leaves no room for lies” Said Monyamane.
