The Democratic Alliance (DA) has threatened to take President Cyril Ramaphosa to court should he not release government’s full vaccine rollout strategy in the next week.
Democratic Alliance leader John Steenhuisen said the government had already made mistakes in its COVID-19 response. He also said South Africa was lagging behind most countries when it comes to vaccine obtainment and distribution.
The party further said the details presented on the vaccine strategy by the minister of health were just a fantasy.
Steenhisen says that the full details of the vaccine shipment must be released.
“The president will receive a letter from our lawyers stating out the extent to which government strategy does not meet the constitutional requirements for a comprehensive vaccine rollout” explains Steenhisen.
Steenhuisen said Ramaphosa had seven days to respond to the party’s letter or face court action.
