South Africa has recorded 14 880 new COVID-19 cases, 615 new deaths. The death toll now stands at 36 467 bringing the country’s total cases to 1 311 686. According to Mr. Mkhize Gauteng has again reported the highest number of cases provincially, accounting for 27.1% of the country’s total infections.
KwaZulu-Natal is leading with the most fatalities recorded at 189 new deaths, 161 in the Western Cape, 100 in the Eastern Cape, 99 in Gauteng, 41 in the Free State, 16 in Mpumalanga and nine in the Northern Cape.
“We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated these patients,” says Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize.
South Africa has conducted 7 498 780 tests so to date, with 65 209 conducted in the last 24-hour cycle.
The country’s recoveries stand at 1 062 690, recoveries with a recovery rate of 80.9%.
The minister has urged the public to use the COVID-19 Alert SA app to protect themselves, and their loved ones.
