According to the department of health and other organizations such as StatsSA, there has been a drastic rise in covid cases, which began to spike from the 29th of November 2020.
Cause for concern stemmed from the Eastern Cape showing a rather worrying response after the lockdown regulations had been lifted. The province began gradually showing potential signs of a second wave, as there is over a thousand reported cases per day.
Public areas around the province have been shut down and zero to no gatherings are allowed as they are beginning to be under strict surveillance instructed by the President himself.
‘We wish to highlight that we have breached the 3000 mark for daily new cases (2514 new cases were identified on Thursday and 888 on Friday). Of these new cases, more than half are from the Eastern Cape Province’ said Health Minister – Mr Zweli Mkhize
