On the evening of May 24 2020, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that South Africans would enjoy the fruits of the liquor industry once again.
Ramaphosa said that alcohol sales would be permitted under lockdown level 3 but only for home use as the consumption of food and alcohol in restaurants and bars remains prohibited.

Public gatherings and other high-risk activities, especially those that involve close contact between large numbers of people, remain prohibited to prevent the spread of the coronavirus said President Ramaphosa.
Our differentiated approach to curbing the spread of COVID-19 will allow us to address clusters of infections in specific municipalities or districts, ensuring economic activity can resume as safely as possible while protecting public health.
President Ramaphosa: We know that the most effective defense against this virus is also the simplest. Wash your hands regularly,wear a face mask, keep atleast 1.5 meters from other people. Avoid touching your face and clean surfaces you touch regularly

Special measures will apply in hotspot areas with more than five infections per 100 000 in the population.
Pertaining to the sale of alcohol and cigarettes the President Ramaphosa afffirmed that Under Level 3 of the lockdown period, restaurants may open for delivery, collection and drive-through only. Cigarette sales are prohibited and so is the sitting in on restaurants.
President Ramaphosa: All those above the age of 60 and those with underlying medical conditions, should leave home only in exceptional circumstances
All borders of the Republic remain closed, except for the transportation of goods and repatriation of citizens.
