Social media went ablaze on Tuesday evening as South African citizens were speculating that they have information, that the government is considering the relaxation of lockdown restrictions, by announcing movement to level 3 of lockdown regulations soon.
Based on a tweet sent out from a popular social media account in South Africa, belonging to an individual who identifies on twitter as “Man’s not Barry Roux” the government will soon be announcing that South Africa will be moving into level 3 of lockdown. Many South Africans as we know have been hit with an unexpected reality, of being accustomed to a life bound in their homes due to the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus, which emerged from a local market in Wuhan China.
The uplifting of lockdown as announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa will be facilitated in stages and will see the country gradually open up its economy and citizens gradually returning to work.
Life of course will not instantaneously return to normal, as the virus lurking amongst us has become an unfortunate reality. The Command Council has warned on several occasions that we as a country would need to be accustomed to a life if masks, other safety gear and sanitary stations as the new normal
The speculations made by the viral twitter account have not been confirmed by any giver official but we can’t help but wonder how accurate this information is, as many South African are anxious to have their lives return to normal.
Many South Africans have suffered job losses during this period and the country has seen a spike in the reporting of gender based violence cases since the beginning of the lockdown period.
No new information has emerged of when President Cyril Ramaphosa is due to address the nation on the outbreak of the pandemic and the lockdown regulations currently put into place. No word has come out of how long the level 4 lockdown will be implemented.
