
The Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula announced that the Gautrain and other forms of railway transportation would be operational again under the lockdown level 4.

The rail service and its buses started operating this morning but under stringent conditions, whereby it’ll operate from 5.30am to 9.30am and then from 3pm to 7pm.

In order to comply with government regulations, trains will only operate at peak hours and passengers will have to wear masks before boarding the train. There will also be no trains to the OR Tambo Airport, except when transporting staff, with provision for emergencies and repatriation flights, and that is not due to change under Level 4.
“On Monday to Friday, trains will operate at 20-minute intervals and on weekends and public holidays, trains will operate at 30-minute intervals,” the Gautrain said in a statement after Mbalula’s speech.
The Gautrain has also put in another measure to protect its commuters against the Coronavirus by installing full body sanitizers at their stations.

The revised schedules were made available on the Gautrain website and App on Sunday, the 3rd of May, 2020.
