Twelve police officers from Namahadi Police Station in Phuthaditjhaba, Free State have been arrested for alleged corruption and contravening with the National Disaster management’s lockdown regulations.
In a statement released by the SAPS, five of the police officers including a reservist have been arrested for allegedly drinking at a local tarven.
Six officers from the Silverton and Brooklyn Police Stations in Pretoria we’re arrested on Saturday after the Mpumalanga Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit received a tip-off that officers had stolen over R30 000 in cash, from people who were passing in a roadblock.
In a separate incident, a police officer violated the lockdown regulations by having a gathering at the police barracks in Soshanguve.
Police Spokesperson, Vish Naidoo said the police officers will face criminal charges and internal investigations will follow.
