ANC Limpopo Councillor, Tebogo Mamarobela has landed herself in trouble after a video of her appearing to be hosting a lockdown birthday bash circulated on social media.
The ANC in the Vhembe region in Limpopo said it was shocked by the video as it contravenes with the lockdown regulations. The political party has taken action against the Makhado Municipality Councillor and she has also been suspended, and her salary has been docked too.
The DA in Limpopo reportedly handed a copy of the video over to the South African Police Service as evidence when they laid a criminal case against Mamarobela as soon as the video surfaced on social media. Mamarobela was allegedly arrested and released on R1000 bail – and is expected to appear at the Makhado Magistrate Court on Friday.
“We strongly condemn any form of behaviour that seeks to undermine our government’s efforts to curb the spread of the killer disease.” – ANC Limpopo spokesperson and regional secretary Anderson Mudunungu.
In the interim, Mamarobela has been asked to recuse herself while the matter is being investigated.
It is alleged that the matter will be forwarded to the ethics committee by the Makhado Municipality’s political management team, and the Councillor will have to make a public apology for her actions.
