If you were looking for any good to come out of Covid-19, this may be it! A couple from Chhattisgarh, India has been inspired by the pandemic to name their newborn twins Corona and Covid.
The twins, a boy and a girl, were born at a government hospital on 27 March 2020, which was two days into India’s nationwide lockdown.
The couple described how labour was a difficult experience for them and the relief they felt after delivery. That prompted them to want to make that moment a memorable one. The twins’ mom, Preeti Verma (27) said that the babies’ names would be a reminder of the challenges and suffering they endured due to the lockdown, yet they successfully brought their blessings into the world.
Covid & Corona’s father, Vinay Verma highlighted the beauty of his children’s names by stating that ‘Corona’ is ‘crown’ in Latin. Their families have however urged them to reconsider this decision and rename the children.
India’s three-week lockdown ends on 14 April 2020 and currently sits on 4 067 confirmed positive cases, and 109 deaths.
