Big guns in the telecommunications industry Telkom & Samsung Africa have donated mobile handsets to the Department of Health
The Gauteng Department of Health has described the generous donation from Telkom & Samsung as a “major boost” in this fight against Covid-19 after today’s handover ceremony in Midrand.
The giants have donated mobile handsets that will be used by the team responsible for contact tracing. A total of 1500 handsets was donated, and Gauteng was the first to receive a portion.
Telkom has also provided SIM cards and also pledged to load them with data every month for the next 6 months. Dr Zweli Mkhize was also present, alongside Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku.
Minister Zweli Mkhize thanked the CEO’s of Telkom & Samsung Africa, Sipho Maseko & Sung Yoon for playing their part in providing resources that would be of great help in this war against a common enemy. He encouraged others to follow suit and join this campaign.
The other provinces that will receive the remaining portions of these handsets are Western Cape, Free State & Kwa-Zulu Natal.
